Overview

As a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine, you will join a driven MDT to enhance frailty and geriatric services across the Trust. You will lead clinically, assess frail patients at the front door, and contribute to improvements in patient outcomes through integrated care pathways. The role supports frailty initiatives, including the Acute Frailty Unit and Community Frailty Service, within a culture of collaborative, multidisciplinary decision-making. This is a transformative opportunity to shape services for an older population in a busy coastal region and contribute to an ambitious NHS change programme.

Responsibilities

  • Be part of a medical consultant team supporting junior and trainee staff
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams using an MDT approach to optimise patient outcomes
  • Continue developing frailty and geriatric services within the Trust
  • Assess more frail patients at the front door to improve care pathways
  • Contribute to service development initiatives and clinical governance efforts
  • Engage in teaching and supervision of trainees and Allied Health Professionals

Key requirements

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCP
  • Higher training in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine for CCT or CESR or equivalent progression
  • Entry onto Specialist Registrar (SpR) or UK SpR within 6 months of CCT/CESR
  • Broad UK-wide exposure to general and geriatric medicine
  • Ability to take independent clinical responsibility and manage acutely ill patients
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle challenging situations
  • Good organizational and leadership abilities
  • Intermediate Life Support (ILS)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) (desirable)
  • Audit experience and quality improvement
