Overview
In this Specialty Doctor role in Emergency Medicine, you provide essential clinical care within a high-volume ED, supporting acute management and supervision of junior staff. You will engage in CESR training with dedicated mentorship, and benefit from multidisciplinary collaboration across departments. The post offers opportunities for secondments, educational development, and progression toward postgraduate qualifications. You will work in a teaching, research-active environment focused on safe, efficient patient care at a major teaching hospital.

Responsibilities
- Provide full clinical duties in the Emergency Department, including assessment and management of acutely unwell patients and injuries
- Lead and supervise junior team members; contribute to department workload planning
- participate in initial resuscitation when appropriate and ensure discharge planning or appropriate referrals
- Support CESR pathway with dedicated educational supervisor and annual ARCP evaluations
- Engage in teaching, audits, and clinical research; participate in educational programmes and life-support training
- Take part in secondments to Paediatrics, Acute Medicine, Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine
- Contribute to department guidelines and life-support compliance (ALS, ATLS, APLS)
- Mentor and role-model best practices; participate in cross-disciplinary teamwork and patient handovers
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
- Participate in on-call duties and occasional emergencies as required by department needs
Key requirements
- Four years post-graduation training with at least two years in Emergency Medicine (or comparable skills)
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice
- Experience in managing a wide range of Emergency and Urgent care conditions
- ALS, APLS and ATLS certifications; ongoing commitment to lifelong learning
- Teaching and supervision of junior staff; ability to lead service development
- Effective communication with patients and families
- Team leadership and collaboration across disciplines
- Teaching and mentorship; initiative in quality improvement
- Emergency medicine clinical skills; resuscitation and acute care
- ALS/ATLS/APLS certifications and ongoing training
- ARCP/evidence-based practice; audit and research methodologies
