Overview
In this role you will lead advanced clinical pharmacy services within the Rheumatology Directorate, delivering expert pharmaceutical care and supporting multidisciplinary collaboration.
You will develop and manage the Rheumatology pharmacy service, including clinic provision and safe, cost-effective medicine use, while collaborating with homecare and the MEC Division.
You will have independent prescribing responsibilities and drive quality improvements, policy development, and service expansion.

Responsibilities
- Lead the advanced specialist pharmaceutical care service for rheumatology to ensure safe, effective and cost-efficient medicine use
- Develop and lead pharmacist-led rheumatology clinics and oversee patient education and monitoring to ensure proper transfer of care
- Provide highly specialised pharmaceutical advice and support to the Rheumatology service and MEC Division
- Hold independent prescriber responsibilities and manage a defined patient caseload within Rheumatology
- Collaborate with the homecare pharmacy team to optimise homecare medicine use and undertake medicine switches as needed
- Monitor drug expenditure (e. g., biologics/biosimilars) and advise on introduction of new therapies
- Assist in policy/guideline development, ensure NICE guidance adherence, and support audits and quality improvement
- Support Clinical Pharmacy team on wards/dispenser activities and contribute to multidisciplinary team work
- Lead and deliver pharmacist-led projects, budget management, and staff development/mentoring
- Promote safe transfer of care, accurate documentation, and adherence to national/corporate priorities
- Foster professional development and contribute to teaching and research initiatives within the Trust
- Key requirements
- MPharm Degree (4 years) or equivalent
- GPh C registration (Member)
- Postgraduate clinical diploma/qualification (or NHS hospital equivalent)
- Non-medical Prescriber (to be undertaken on appointment if not already registered)
- Evidence of CPD
- Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in rheumatology; Royal College of Pharmacy membership
- Relevant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience
- Clinical rheumatology experience and delivery of clinical pharmacy services
- Experience leading projects and budgetary management
- Audit/quality improvement experience
- Ability to work in busy environments and manage staff
