Overview
In this role you will be a substantive Consultant in Orthopaedics with a subspecialty focus on Upper Limb surgery. You will help deliver and network the regional orthopaedic service in Lancashire, working across acute trauma and elective pathways. You will rotate through both main hospital sites and participate in training and supervision of junior colleagues. You will engage in on-call rotations and cross-site clinics, contributing to a high‑quality, multidisciplinary trauma and orthopaedic service that supports patient care across the region.
Responsibilities
- Undertake elective and fracture outpatient clinics
- Provide elective and trauma operating sessions
- Attend ward rounds and handle related administration
- Share on-call duties on a 1:8 rota with a colleague
- Complement the consultant team and MDT within the directorate
- Contribute to training and supervision of junior medical staff and medical students
- Deliver services across multiple sites (Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital)
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration and licence to practise
- Inclusion on Specialist Register or due admission within 6 months
- FRCS(Tr+Orth) or equivalent accreditation
- Recognised higher professional training
- Subspecialty interest in Upper Limb
- Training in general trauma surgery (adult & paediatric)
- Fellowship trained
- Desirable: ATLS
- Essential: Specialist Registrar or equivalent grade experience in Orthopaedic surgery
- Desirable: Evidence of teaching to junior staff and non-medical staff
