Overview
In this role you join East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust as a Consultant in Orthopaedics with a focus on lower limb surgery. You will help deliver and network the orthopaedic service across East Lancashire, working across two main hospitals and community sites. The role involves elective and trauma duties, teaching, and supervision within a collaborative MDT. You will operate in a high-volume trauma and elective setting and support training and education of junior staff. The opportunity centers on improving patient care in hip and knee arthroplasty and related trauma services.
Responsibilities
- Undertake elective and fracture outpatient clinics
- Participate in elective and trauma operating sessions
- Ward rounds and related administration
- On-call duties 1:8 week with a colleague (alternating days)
- Complement and collaborate with the existing consultant team within the directorate
- Training and supervision of junior medical staff; educational supervision and career advice
- Supervise medical students and contribute to undergraduate/postgraduate education
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration and Licence to Practise
- Inclusion on Specialist Register or due admission within 6 months
- FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent accreditation
- Sub-specialty interest in lower limb arthroplasty
- Training in general trauma surgery (Adult & Paediatric)
- Fellowship trained (Desirable)
- ATLS (Desirable)
- Experience as Specialist Registrar or equivalent leading to CCT (Essential)
- Demonstrated teaching to junior/non-medical staff (Desirable)
