Overview
In this role you join ROH's spine team to expand capacity and deliver high-quality spinal oncology surgery for referrals. You will work with a multidisciplinary spinal oncology MDT and utilise advanced facilities to improve patient outcomes. You will have completed orthopaedic or neurosurgical training and, ideally, a spinal fellowship with a focus on adult degenerative and oncological spine conditions. You will contribute to complex cases and support spine trauma management within RSN guidelines, without leading deformity cases unless needed. Responsibilities
- Manage the on-call spinal service within a dedicated rota separate from non-spinal orthopaedics
- Handle referrals via the ReferAPatient system in line with regional and national guidelines
- Join colleagues with an oncology focus to maximise use of facilities for patient care
- Participate in the weekly spinal oncology MDT to determine optimal treatment plans
- Perform a broad range of spinal procedures using modern facilities (operating beds, microscopy, intraoperative 3D imaging, navigation, spinal endoscopy)
- Contribute to care pathways and multi-disciplinary decision making across cancer care
- Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to research or publications
- Support trauma spine management within Regional Spinal Network guidelines
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration along with FRCS (orth) or FRCS (SN) or equivalent higher surgical qualification
- On specialist register or within 6 months of completion (CCT or CESR)
- Have completed (at least 12 months) or be undertaking a training fellowship in Lower Limb Arthroplasty surgery (including complex revision arthroplasty)
- Minimum 24 months experience in spinal surgery with a spinal fellowship in degenerative and oncology conditions
- Evidence of satisfactory level of independent operating in spinal surgery
- Experience in complex revision surgery including infection and significant bone loss
- Interest in research and publications
