There is an opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust as a substantive oral surgeon. The appointee will be expected to support the Maxillofacial unit by assisting in all aspects for recovery of services. There will be the opportunity to have access to our specialist team with skills in oncology, orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery, craniofacial surgery and trauma. The Unit is a regional centre for Head and Neck Cancer, Cleft, Craniofacial and Skull Base Surgery. There are close working relationships with ENT and Plastics.

The Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery Department works across three sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and Solihull Hospital (SH). The Trust is a regional centre for cancer, trauma, burns & plastics and has the largest solid organ transplantation programme in Europe. The Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery Department has 12 OMFS consultants, 1 Oral Surgery consultant and 5 staff grades. It also employs 2 Consultant Orthodontists. The appointee will be expected to undertake cross-site working. Elective theatre sessions will be at the Solihull and Heartlands Hospital. Our consultants work within a culture of mutual respect and colleague support. Main duties of the job
Clinical responsibilities: The appointee will be involved in running clinics and theatres at Solihull hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The appointee will be responsible for supporting the oral surgery service at University Hospitals Birmingham, including oral surgery commitments at City Hospital.

General responsibilities:
The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of the service. Subject to the provisions of the terms and conditions of service they must observe agreed policies on clinical matters and should follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Hospital. In the management of employees of the Trust, they will be expected to follow legislation laid down in this respect. All employees must comply with the Trust Infection Control Policy. All employees must attend infection control training as required within their department or as directed by their line manager. You will be expected to be committed to Continuing Professional Development that satisfies the criteria laid down by the Royal College of Surgeons.
