Overview

In this role you will lead Neuro-ophthalmology within a tertiary NHS service, helping to manage regional referrals and contribute to a dynamic, multi-site eye service. Based primarily at QEHB with potential work at other sites, you will shape a neuro-ophthalmology offering to meet acute regional needs. You will engage in clinical governance, teaching, and research, while supporting community ophthalmology expansion. This is a high-impact post for driving specialist care within a collaborative, values-driven Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and develop a regional neuro-ophthalmology service to cover emergency workload
  • Deliver outpatient and theatre sessions across QEHB and other sites as needed
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and professional development
  • Contribute to the department's research portfolio and multi-disciplinary collaboration
  • Provide cross-cover for colleagues and manage private/NHS responsibilities transparently
  • Support expansion of community ophthalmology including remotely reviewed investigations

Key requirements

  • Full GMC Registration. On the Specialist Register or within 6 months of completion of training
  • FRCOphth or equivalent
  • Team collaboration and communication
  • Flexibility and adaptability with timetabling
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and safety
  • Post-CCT subspecialty training in Neuro-ophthalmology
  • Experience in neuro-ophthalmology clinical service provision and research
  • Ability to review remotely acquired investigations and support community ophthalmology
