Band 8a Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologist in Birmingham

We have a vacancy within Children and Young People's Division (Forward Thinking Birmingham) in the Personality and Complex Trauma (PACT) Team working with children, young people (age 14 to 25), carers and families. PACT offers intensive and longer term interventions, to support the core team with children and young people with high levels of distress and risk. We are a small welcoming and friendly team focused on working with the diverse needs that families present with.

We are looking for an experienced Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychologist. We would welcome applications from those looking to build upon their clinical skills with a wide range of presenting difficulties; who are keen to develop specialisms; and greater leadership roles to make a difference in the community. This is an ideal post to apply your full range of psychological skills and knowledge including consultation, training, supervision, service development, leadership, and research in addition to direct clinical work.

Main duties of the job include:

• Working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide a range of clinical services.
• Gaining experience of multi-level and integrated service provision.
• Developing skills of complex case assessment, formulation and the application of evidence based psychological interventions, both individual and in groups.
• Experience of working with children and young people with complex mental health and behavioural needs.
• Familiarity with the needs of a diverse BAME community and working in areas of high socioeconomic deprivation.

Training/qualifications required:

• Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist eligible for chartered status.
• Registration with appropriate body (eg HCPC, ACP, BACP, AFT).
• Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice (desirable).

Experience required:

• Experience of assessing and treating children, young people and/or young adults in the community.
• Experience of assessing and managing risky clients in the community.
• Some experience of contributing to planning and evaluation of services.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience of providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment for clients across the full range of mental health settings to include outpatient, community, day services and in-patient settings.
• Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
• Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts (desirable).

Personal attributes:

• Ability to communicate well and to form good working relationships with professionals at all levels.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Ability to travel across the city of Birmingham, between bases and within the community for work purposes.
