Overview
In this role you lead the Research Governance Team to ensure efficient study set-up and capacity planning, aligning delivery with local and national requirements. You provide operational oversight, decision-making on governance issues, and drive service improvements to remove barriers and strengthen timelines. You will work with sponsors, investigators and internal teams to translate regulatory changes into practice, shaping the next phase of UHB’s study-set-up programme. This is a leadership role that combines governance, performance oversight and stakeholder management to enable high-quality research delivery.

Responsibilities
- Lead operational management of study set-up and Capacity & Capability across the Trust
- Directly manage Research Governance Team staff, oversee workload and prioritisation
- Monitor performance and provide assurance and reporting to senior R&I colleagues
- Make and support complex governance decisions and resolve escalated issues
- Lead service improvement when standards or timelines are not met
- Contribute to policy, systems and process development; oversee cost recovery
- Collaborate with sponsors, investigators and internal teams to remove delivery barriers
Key requirements
- Sound understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and UK clinical trials directive
- Experience in NHS research management and/or research administration, including approval and set up of clinical research studies
- Experience in staff supervision/management and delivering training
- Evidence of developing teams and delivering projects within the NHS
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of clinical trial methodologies, logistics and NCVR process
- Experience with risk management and service improvement is desirable
