Overview
In this role you will provide specialist oncoplastic breast care within the Breast Unit, combining therapeutic mammoplasty and reconstruction to treat benign and malignant breast disease. You will lead and participate in theatre lists, clinics, and cancer pathways, while offering senior clinical leadership and driving service development. The post emphasizes patient-centred care, governance, audit, and continuing professional development. You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to shape the future of breast services and deliver high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist oncoplastic breast care including assessment, diagnosis, and management of breast conditions
- Deliver oncoplastic procedures (therapeutic mammoplasty and reconstruction)
- Lead and participate in theatre sessions, outpatient clinics, MDTs, and cancer pathways
- Ensure safe management of complex breast disease and timely patient care
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and innovation
- Supervise and teach junior medical staff and MDT members
- Apply research evidence to practice; participate in audit and governance
- Communicate clearly with patients, relatives, and external partners
- Maintain professional development and engage in CMEs, governance, and audit
- Demonstrate leadership and flexibility during service pressures
- Uphold high standards of professionalism and patient-centred care
Key requirements
- FRCS or equivalent (essential)
- Clinical training and experience in oncoplastic breast surgery equivalent to UK CCST (essential)
- Excellent clinical skills with extensive experience in benign and malignant breast disease
- Experience in therapeutic mammoplasty and reconstruction
- Ability to organise and manage clinical workload; leadership for service development
- Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff; IT skills
- Ability to convert evidence into practice; involvement in audit and governance
- Excellent communication with patients, teams, GPs, and agencies
- Commitment to CME and clinical governance; ability to work under pressure
- Current UK professional registration (preferred/desirable)
