Overview
In this role you will join an established anaesthesia team at Sulis Hospital, contributing to high-volume, same-day pathways and complex care. You will help drive service development, research, and teaching within a clinically led framework that supports NHS and private patient activity. You will work with cross-functional teams to maintain high safety and governance standards while expanding capacity. This is a leadership-minded post with opportunities to oversee theatres, Day Surgery, and Pre-Op services. Your impact will center on improving pathways, outcomes, and patient experience in a respected, award-winning hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a minimum of eight Clinical PAs in theatres and pre-operative assessment plus two PAs of Supporting Professional Activity weekly
- Collaborate with partners, unit managers, nurses, and colleagues to meet clinical and local priorities
- Participate in care-pathway development, research, audit, and teaching
- Work across weekend rosters and on-call arrangements with Sulis consultants
- Manage a flexible caseload, ensure patient suitability, escalation, and transfer decisions
- Adhere to Sulis policies and manage postoperative analgesia within documented timescales
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration
- Entry on the Specialist Register in Anaesthetics, or within 3 months of achieving CCT
- FRCA or equivalent
- CCT or CESR
- Extensive anaesthesia training and experience, including short-stay, high-volume and same-day surgery
- Current competence in ultrasound-guided upper-limb regional anaesthesia (interscalene block)
- Ability to work independently and lead an operating list
- Experience with clinical audit and governance, quality improvement, and service development
