Overview
As a doctor in palliative care, you join a consultant-led hospice team delivering high-quality care across inpatient, hospice, and community settings. You will collaborate closely with an MDT to assess, treat, and support patients and families, contributing to service development during a growth phase. The role blends clinical responsibility with teaching, supervision, and CPD, offering opportunities to work across hospice, community, and hospital environments. This position combines hands-on care with ongoing professional development and mentoring.

Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality palliative care in collaboration with Consultants in Palliative Medicine
- Undertake medical assessment, diagnosis and management in hospice/community
- Prescribe and manage treatment per policies and guidelines
- Assess admissions and coordinate investigations with the MDT
- Communicate with patients, relatives and carers; participate in family meetings
- Attend Specialist Palliative Care MDT meetings and provide on-call support
- Maintain accurate clinical records and update drug charts
- Co-ordinate with referrers and other professionals for continuity of care
- Provide teaching and support to MDT and visiting professionals
- Engage in CPD, annual appraisal, and revalidation processes
Key requirements
- MBBS or equivalent
- At least two years post-graduate experience; Foundation 2 competencies or equivalent
- Background in General Practice or hospital medicine
- Experience with life-limiting illnesses and multi-professional teamwork
- Full GMC registration and eligibility to work in the UK
- Satisfactory DBS check and professional references
- Experience in prescribing, patient communication, and working in palliative care (desirable)
- Effective communication with patients, families and colleagues
- Empathy and compassionate patient-centered approach
- Teamwork and MDT collaboration
- IT proficiency
- Audit experience
- Knowledge of NHS structure and EOL care quality markers
