Overview
In this role you will lead and develop the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme within the Trust, with a focus on advanced endoscopy and EMR polypectomy. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care, supervise trainees, and contribute to teaching and governance. You will help drive service improvement, audit, and timely cancer pathways, while supporting outpatient transformation and RTT targets. This position offers leadership opportunities and a chance to shape specialized gastroenterology services.
Responsibilities
- Deliver and develop the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) within the Trust
- Perform and oversee advanced endoscopy including EMR and complex polypectomy
- Contribute to general gastroenterology services (inpatient, outpatient, on-call)
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (colorectal and complex Polyp MDTs)
- Engage in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and revalidation
- Support education, training, and supervision of gastroenterology trainees and endoscopy staff
- Contribute to departmental teaching programmes
- Support Outpatient transformation and endoscopy recovery; help achieve RTT 18-week, 2-week wait, and faster diagnostic standards
- Allocate significant activity to BCSP while maintaining GI inpatient and endoscopy services
- Provide leadership and workforce planning for endoscopy and cancer pathways
- Participate in service improvement plans in line with BCSP and JAG standards
- Maintain professional standards and lead innovations in patient-centred care
Key requirements
- MBBS, MRCP or Equivalent
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or eligible within six months
- BCSP Accredited
- Accredited and independent in Upper GI and lower GI endoscopy
- Knowledge of complex polypectomy skills (desirable)
- NHS experience within the last 3 years (desirable)
- Knowledge & experience of supervising and teaching clinical skills
- JAG Train the Trainers Accreditation (desirable)
