Overview

In this role you will provide anaesthetic services across diverse surgical lists, with supervision from consultant colleagues. You will support obstetric anaesthesia, labour ward, and ICU cover as required, including EWTD-compliant on-call. The post emphasizes teaching, audit and clinical governance within a forward-thinking, development-focused department. You will work to develop obstetric anaesthesia and intensive care experience while aligning with the Trust’s values and service needs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver anaesthetic care for a range of surgical lists, solo or with consultants
  • Provide obstetric anaesthesia / labour ward cover and/or ICU support as required
  • On-call/resident duties on a 1:8 rota
  • Maintain legible, comprehensive records and communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and families
  • deputise for absent colleagues when appropriate
  • Participate in audits and educational sessions; contribute to clinical governance
  • Support service development and adapt the work programme to Trust needs
  • Engage in teaching and professional development within the department

Key requirements

  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent with full GMC registration
  • Minimum 2 years of anaesthetic experience
  • Desirable: Primary FRCA or equivalent; MRCP; FCEM primary; relevant courses (ALS, APLS, ATLS)
  • Initial obstetric competency assessment and core level ICU training or equivalent
  • Interest in teaching and audit/service improvement
  • Ability to work flexibly to support service delivery
