An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to join the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery team at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking clinician to help deliver a comprehensive OMFS service across our hospital sites, providing high-quality care to a diverse patient population. The successful candidate will join a supportive consultant team and contribute to clinical care, teaching, training, clinical governance and service development. There will be opportunities to develop and expand specialist clinical interests in line with departmental priorities and the successful candidate's expertise and aspirations.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver a comprehensive Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service across the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The role includes the assessment and management of patients across the full range of OMFS practice, participation in elective and emergency care, outpatient and theatre activity, and contribution to the consultant on-call rota. The post holder will be expected to support the education and supervision of junior medical staff, participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities, and contribute to the ongoing development of services. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop specialist clinical interests that complement the needs of the department and Trust.

Person Specification:

  • Education & Professional Qualifications:
    • Essential: Full GMC and GDC registration
    • On specialist register in Maxillofacial Surgery
    • Hold CCST in Maxillofacial Surgery or equivalent
    • Hold specialty intercollegiate FRCS or equivalent
    • Desirable: A post-graduate medical degree or equivalent
  • Experience / Knowledge:
    • Essential: Experience in all aspects of general Oral and Maxillofacial surgery
    • Evidence of interest in Head and Neck Trauma and Skin malignancy management
    • Involvement in multidisciplinary team working
    • Experience working in busy clinical settings
    • Experience in devising, conducting and participating in audits
    • Strong teaching skills and experience
    • Experience of teaching at postgraduate level to medical staff
    • Experience of training others including non-medical staff
    • Application of current research based medicine to clinical care
    • Desirable: An excellent record of research
  • Skills and Aptitudes:
    • Essential: Excellent clinical skills
    • The authority, decision-making skills needed to lead a multidisciplinary team in a complex environment
    • Awareness and understanding of health, safety and security issues for self and others
    • Strong teaching skills and experience
