Overview

Optimised Care seeks an experienced Bank Consultant Anaesthetist to support elective surgical services at The Bromsgrove Hospital. You join a consultant-led, multidisciplinary team delivering safe, high-quality anaesthetic care across the peri-operative pathway. The role offers flexible bank sessions to complement NHS/private commitments. You will collaborate with surgeons and clinical colleagues to uphold patient safety and contribute to governance and improvement. Opportunity to build a longer-term relationship as services expand.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Consultant-level anaesthetic services for elective procedures
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments and identify risks
  • Develop individualized anaesthetic plans with patient and surgical team
  • Deliver appropriate anaesthesia (general, regional, or other) within scope
  • Monitor during the peri-operative period and respond to changes
  • Provide post-operative anaesthetic care and safe recovery transfer
  • Escalate anaesthetic complications appropriately
  • Collaborate with surgeons, theatre staff, and multidisciplinary team
  • Ensure clear clinical documentation and effective communication
  • Contribute to clinical governance, patient safety, and quality improvement
  • Operate within hospital policies and governance arrangements
  • Maintain GMC standards and continuing professional development

Key requirements

  • GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Specialist registration in Anaesthetics or equivalent specialist-level experience
  • Current Consultant-level experience in anaesthesia
  • Competence in anaesthetic care for elective surgery
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and clinical governance understanding
  • Good communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
