Overview
In this role you will lead and develop the Automated Chemistry section within the Clinical Chemistry department, supporting a 24/7 high-throughput service across multiple sites. You will work with a dedicated team to maintain quality and timely results, driving improvements and staff development. The position sits in a fast-paced, accredited lab environment where leadership, QA and training are essential. This is a chance to shape service delivery in a large NHS trust with cross-site collaboration.

Responsibilities
- Supervise and develop staff to deliver high-quality automated chemistry testing
- Maintain and improve quality control, QA, and adherence to ISO 15189 and MHRA requirements
- Support 24/7 service provision and participate in the duty manager rota
- Collaborate with cross-site teams across QEHB, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals
- Lead or contribute to training and professional development for staff (IBMS guidelines)
- Assist in throughput optimization and problem-solving in a high-volume lab
Key requirements
- HCPC registration
- BSc in Biomedical Science with MSc or IBMS Level 7 postgraduate certification (or equivalent)
- Post-registration specialty training per IBMS guidelines
- Significant post-registration laboratory experience in a relevant discipline
- Experience in leadership, quality control, and safety practices
- Knowledge of quality management systems and accreditation standards (ISO 15189, MHRA)
