As a Network Support Engineer in the Technical Infrastructure team at University Hospitals Birmingham, you will maintain and advance the hospital’s enterprise network to support critical clinical and business services. You will troubleshoot complex issues, drive service improvements, and contribute to digital transformation initiatives that enhance patient care. The role sits at the core of a large NHS Trust focused on learning, inclusion, and high-quality IT services. You will collaborate across sites to deliver secure, reliable network services that underpin patient care.

Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop enterprise network environments across hospital sites
- Troubleshoot complex connectivity and performance issues
- Support service improvements and digital transformation initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure, reliable network services
- Contribute to on-call incident response when required
Key requirements
- Specialist knowledge of network technologies with practical experience in LAN/WAN environments, routing and switching, security controls, firewalls, VPNs, and cloud networking
- Experience in technical support within an enterprise environment
- Understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS; network security principles
- Wired and wireless troubleshooting experience
- Cybersecurity readiness, response and recovery knowledge (ISO/IEC 27001, Cyber Essentials)
- Relevant networking qualification (e.g. CCNA) or equivalent experience
- Willingness to participate in on-call rota and travel across sites
- Experience with Cisco and/or Extreme networking technologies
- Experience with IP address management, subnetting, DHCP, DNS
- Experience of Network Operating Systems (Cisco IOS, Linux, Windows)
