An exciting opportunity has arisen within Specialist Services for a key and pivotal role full time General Manager (Cancer Delivery/Haematology/Psychology) to join our busy management team. This role will have an opportunity to make a direct positive impact on patient experience within the Trust.
Main duties of the job
- Support and oversee the operational delivery of services in Specialist Services, developing the Cancer service in line with the clinical and operational strategy, to ensure safe care and effective use of all resources.
- Take a lead in achieving key performance targets in line with national and local agreements.
- Support the strategic development of services in achieving the requirements of the aims and objectives associated within the Division and the service developments required in line with the National Guidance.

Job responsibilities
- Develop and implement local delivery plans that will meet service needs and contribute to the annual planning process of the trust in line with agreed corporate objectives and priorities.
- Plan and manage the implementation of projects to modernise services and to improve facilities and working practices to meet organisational and service delivery plans.
- Ensure strong financial performance against plans through identification of problems at an early stage and the initiation of corrective action.
- Ensure effective communication systems are in place throughout the Cancer/Haematology/Psychology Service and between and across other relevant service areas.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day efficient and effective non-clinical operational management of the defined service areas in conjunction with Clinical Leads.
- Develop and implement longer-term solutions to issues raised, requiring support and agreement of large teams of people and management of projects that deliver change.
Performance management
- Support the Trust's performance management framework for the defined service areas and be accountable for performance in those service areas against all key performance measures.
- Receive written and verbal daily monitoring reports on patient pathway in relation to access targets, ensuring that any delays or obstacles on the patient pathway are resolved.
- Review and escalate performance indicator information in line with performance management framework.
- Produce reports and remedial action plans on key performance issues for the Divisional Director, as required.
Service improvement
- In collaboration with the Chief Psychologist and service lead psychologists, initiate, develop and lead specific patient pathway projects to improve the quality of the services.
- Work with clinical and managerial colleagues to achieve sustained service improvement.
- Monitor service improvement programmes and associated work streams that support specific patient pathways.
- Collaborate with other NHS Trusts, Thames Valley Cancer Alliance (TVCA), BOB ICS, and partners across the health economy, as required.
People management
- Develop workforce plans ensuring that professional and non-professional workforce requirements are identified.
- Ensure communication mechanisms operate effectively to create an inclusive culture.
- Oversee, review, implement and monitor work practices, ensuring proposed changes are agreed with appropriate staff.
- Support the Chief Psychologist in ensuring adequate staffing levels with appropriate skill mix are maintained at all times.
- Develop full workforce training and succession plans.
Leadership
- Provide visible leadership throughout the defined service areas and empower staff to deliver the best for patients and staff.
- Lead on supporting cultural change within the Cancer/Haematology/Psychology Service by modelling the Trust's service standards and core values.
- Create an environment where clinicians and staff are held to account for quality of care and the effective use of resources.
- Act as ambassador for the Trust at all times.
Financial management
- Be accountable to the Divisional Director for the financial performance of delegated budgets within the defined service areas.
- Work with the divisional management accountant on measures to ensure achievement of financial targets.
- Ensure that all those within the service with influence over expenditure understand and work within the Trust's financial framework.
- Identify cost pressures, service development and cost improvement plans.
Governance
- Ensure operational processes are adhered to and audited.
- Engage in the management of incidents and complaints.
- Ensure compliance with all legal requirements including health and safety legislation/regulations.
Corporate responsibilities
- Ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to and direct changes to support.
- Participate in CPD and ensure all policies and procedures are accurate and reviewed regularly.
