An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Autism Assessor to join the Ealing Adult Autism Assessment Service. We are looking for a motivated and flexible registered clinician with experience of working with autistic people and an interest in developing specialist knowledge in autism diagnosis.
The successful candidate will support the assessment of adults referred for possible autism, including completing and analysing screening questionnaires, undertaking diagnostic assessments using ADOS-2 and/or other appropriate assessment tools, and contributing to multidisciplinary clinical decision-making. You will provide feedback following assessments, produce high-quality clinical reports and contribute to post-diagnostic support. The role involves working closely with autistic adults, their families, the multidisciplinary team and other health professionals.
Main duties of the job
The Autism Assessor will support the delivery of diagnostic assessments for adults referred to the Ealing Adult Autism Assessment Service. Duties will include:
- Completing and analysing screening questionnaires
- Gathering relevant clinical information
- Undertaking autism assessments using ADOS-2 and/or other appropriate assessment tools
- Contributing to multidisciplinary discussions to determine assessment outcomes
- Providing feedback to individuals and families
- Producing high-quality clinical reports
- Providing appropriate recommendations, onward referrals and signposting
- Contributing to post-diagnostic support
- Maintaining accurate clinical records
- Participating in service evaluation, audit and continuous improvement
Person Specification
Qualifications and training
- Essential: Professional qualification as a nurse, speech and language therapist or occupational therapist
- Registration with the HCPC or NMC
- ADOS Trained
- Desirable: Evidence of further training in Autism related training courses
- Familiarity with collecting a developmental history as part of neuro-developmental pathways
- ADI-R Trained
Experience
- Essential: Experience working with Autistic people
- Experience in carrying out ADOS assessments
- Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Desirable: Experience of screening Autism referrals
- Experience working in a culturally diverse service/area
- Experience of conducting service-related research and/or Data Collection / Monitoring
- Experience in working on diagnostic assessment pathways
Knowledge
- Essential: Knowledge of Autism Specific Screening Tools
- An understanding of how to adapt communication and co-ordinate support for people with Autism
- Desirable: Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group
- Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group
Skills and Attributes
- Essential: Ability to present findings, including diagnostic formulation, concisely into a clinical report which is client-centred and includes a strength and needs profile
- To know when to raise a safeguarding concern and when it is necessary to seek immediate clinical supervision
- Desirable: Ability to work cross-culturally and/or in different languages
