Overview
In this role you lead the Haematology laboratory within EKHUFT, ensuring 24/7 delivery of acute services. You will manage staff and resources, drive service developments and transform processes, and maintain high standards in morphology and coagulation work. You will train multidisciplinary staff, deputise for section leads, and contribute to network-wide education through the KMPN academy. This is a leadership-focused, hands-on role in a UKAS ISO 15189:2022 accredited setting.

Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of the Haematology laboratory and reporting to the Chief BMS
- Train in all Haematology aspects including coagulation and blood film morphology
- Participate in the 24/7 CPP pattern (nights, weekends, bank holidays)
- Provide morphology training and deputise for section leads
- Lead quality activities and participate in EQA schemes (haematology, morphology, coagulation)
- Contribute to staff development, competency sign-off, and transformation initiatives
- Investigate poor returns and support UKAS assessments
- Possibly engage in Blood Transfusion-related initiatives as needed
Key requirements
- HCPC registration
- Band 7 level leadership and staff management experience
- Extensive post-qualification experience in UKAS ISO 15189 accredited Haematology/Blood Transfusion lab
- Strong morphology, coagulation, and analytical skills
- Experience with training, competency sign-off, and teaching multidisciplinary staff
- Experience with EQA schemes and quality improvements
- Ability to deputise for section leads and deliver targets
- Knowledge of recent advances in Haematology and Blood Transfusion
- Effective communication with health care professionals
