As an ICT Technical Specialist, you safeguard the organisation’s digital backbone within the Digital Infrastructure team, ensuring firewall and security services remain secure, resilient and reliable to support patient care. You will work with senior colleagues, projects and external suppliers to drive continuous service improvement, leveraging NHS technology. This role combines hands-on security operations with technical guidance and cross-functional collaboration to maintain high service levels and safety.
Responsibilities
- Maintain day-to-day operation and configuration of firewall/security systems, including patching, access controls, capacity checks and backup testing.
- Manage incident resolution, problem investigation, change implementations and service requests to ensure high system availability.
- Assist with technology refreshes, supplier management and decommissioning under senior direction.
- Provide expert technical guidance to project leads and service owners and escalate material risks and budget considerations to senior management.
- Communicate complex technical information to non-technical colleagues with patient care and customer service at the center.
- Support vulnerability remediation, secure configurations, logging, monitoring and audit evidence gathering; produce technical specs, test plans, risk assessments and procedures.
- Deliver continuous improvements aligned with cyber security and digital infrastructure operations.
- Contribute to governance, risk management and service transition activities as requested.
- Compliance with confidentiality, data protection and information security requirements.
Key requirements
- Degree level education in a relevant digital, technology or cyber security discipline, or equivalent specialist experience.
- Understanding of confidentiality, data protection and information security requirements.
- Good knowledge of security and firewall concepts, digital infrastructure operations, dynamic routing, cyber security best practices, service management and resilience.
- Experience supporting complex security, firewall, network or infrastructure services in a medium or large organisation.
- Evidence of continued professional development relevant to digital infrastructure or cyber security.
- Disclosable DBS check requirement and driving licence with access to a car for business use.
