Overview
As a Consultant in Cellular Pathology, you will lead and develop a high-quality pathology service within East Kent. You will work across the Cellular Pathology Service, guiding colleagues and supporting cancer and other clinical specialties. The role includes leading quality assurance, teaching, and MDT participation, with opportunities to develop sub-specialty interests. You will contribute to the county-wide STP aims and engage with digital pathology reporting. This is a chance to influence service transformation in a large NHS trust.
Responsibilities
- Participate as an active member of the East Kent Cellular Pathology Service and contribute to service provision, planning and development
- Develop sub-specialty interest(s) within planned service development
- Engage in MDTs supporting cancer services and quality assurance for relevant specialties
- Participate in clinical audit and external quality assurance schemes (EQA)
- Lead or contribute to periodic audit meetings with clinicians and within the department
- Support education and postgraduate teaching
- Share service provision across sites via rota and videoconferencing where needed
Key requirements
- Full GMC Registration on the specialist register or within 6 months of CCT
- Desirable: Subspecialty interest in skin, lung, genitourinary, and head and neck pathology
- Experience of working as a pathologist in an NHS Trust at specialist grade or above with at least 6 months of independent reporting
- Evidence of digital pathology validation (desirable)
