Overview
In this role you will apply your SLT expertise to support education settings and improve communication outcomes for children and young people. You will work with education professionals to identify barriers, implement evidence-based strategies, and drive system-wide improvements through the Experts at Hand programme. You will lead, coach and train non-therapy staff, improving inclusion and participation across Buckinghamshire. This role offers a chance to influence practice at both setting and county-wide levels, contributing to SEND reform and workforce development. You will join a collaborative, cross-sector team focused on delivering measurable impact for children and families.

Responsibilities
- Provide consultation, coaching and training to education settings to foster inclusive, communication-friendly environments
- Identify and reduce barriers to communication, participation and learning via observation, consultation and evidence-based recommendations
- Support children and young people with diverse speech, language and communication needs across settings
- Facilitate the graduated approach with schools to implement strategies and reasonable adjustments
- Deliver training, develop resources and promote communication-inclusive practice across educational settings
- Collaborate with colleagues across education, health, social care and voluntary sectors to strengthen SEND provision
- Provide leadership, supervision and support to colleagues and therapy assistants, contributing to service development, quality improvement, audit and outcome evaluation
- Influence practice at setting and system-wide levels to improve outcomes for children and young people
Key requirements
- Substantial post-registration experience with children and young people (0–19) with complex needs
- Highly specialist experience assessing and managing DLD, speech sound and social communication needs
- Experience in education and early years settings and in delivering consultation, coaching and modelling to non-therapy staff
- Experience designing and delivering training to professionals and the wider workforce
- Experience working in multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams
- Experience supervising, mentoring or line managing staff/assistants
- Experience of service evaluation, audit or quality improvement
- Experience contributing to the graduated approach and SEND processes
- advanced communication and ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences
- negotiation and constructive influence across professional opinions
- prioritisation and organisation of a complex, autonomous caseload
- knowledge of SALT assessment tools and evidence-based interventions for this population
- strong understanding of SEND legislation, the Code of Practice, graduated approach and SEND reform
- competent IT and record-keeping skills including electronic systems and remote/virtual delivery
