National Grid is hiring a Senior Architecture Manager – This position is based from our Warwick office however we offer flexible hybrid working options.
Job Purpose
NGET is committed to evolving and enhancing its energy network to meet contemporary demands and to achieving a decarbonised energy system by 2050. The Senior Architecture Manager will define and maintain NGET's long term strategic network direction and architecture in line with our vision. Having industry insight, strong relationships with a range of industry stakeholders, and the strategic acumen to set the direction for NGET's network, the Senior Architecture Manager is well positioned to create and embed the principles and architecture for a capacity rich and operable future grid. This will account for emerging industry trends, and ensure the architecture is upheld through design processes. This role is key to guiding the ET business to achieve required performance levels for our customers whilst ensuring a reliable and operable network. All leading to successful delivering of Clean Power 2030 and Net Zero 2050 outcomes.
About You
This is a role for those who want to make a tangible and lasting impact on society - being at the forefront of a once-in-a-generation upgrade of the electricity transmission network for 2050 and beyond to meet decarbonisation targets. You will be defining the architecture of the future grid setting the direction for network evolution with clear and implementable network plan to deliver renewable energy through a network that is expandable and future proof. As a person with significant presence within the business and industry you will keep stakeholders informed in the evolving energy landscape, and how our network architecture accommodates these needs.
- Strong leadership capability with consultative, facilitation, and decision‑making skills.
- Proven ability to build positive relationships at a senior level.
- Experience in leading teams and projects in strategic areas of the business.
- Expert presentation and influencing skills.
- In‑depth knowledge of the UK electricity industry, including network design and construction, system operation and the commercial/regulatory environment.
- Understanding of decarbonisation challenges and pathways to achieve Net Zero targets.
- Experience in developing innovative solutions and products to meet business objectives.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and implement NGET's Strategic network architecture that provides customer, stakeholder and industry partner confidence in our network plans.
- Direct strategic network analysis relating to macro‑trends as the continual guiding mind on business approaches that are in keeping with the network architecture.
- Establish and direct economic network modelling activities in collaboration with corporate functions to make best use of collective focus and resources.
- Establish and maintain strong industry relationships with those impacted by NGET's Network Architecture direction, including other network owners and operators, regulators, government, local authorities and industry partners, existing and prospective customer bases, and those that represent electricity consumer interests.
Qualifications
- Degree level (or equivalent) in engineering, numeric or science‑based subject.
- Chartered status in a relevant professional body e.g. IET preferable or membership with skills and training leading to chartership (or equivalent).
