Overview
In this role you will act as the senior compliance leader and trusted advisor to National Grid’s UK operations, partnering with executives to enable strategic objectives while upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethics. You will lead the UK business compliance team, provide independent oversight, and integrate compliance into business strategy and transformation. You will shape the UK compliance agenda, engage with regulators, and promote ethical decision-making across the organisation. This position offers the chance to influence risk management at scale within a mission to support a cleaner, reliable energy future.

Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the UK compliance team within the Group structure
- Provide strategic compliance leadership to executive and senior leadership teams
- Oversee embedding of the Group Compliance Programme and promote business ownership of controls
- Monitor UK compliance risk landscape, escalate significant matters
- Champion the Code of Ethics and Speak Up programme across the business
- Oversee monitoring, assurance, issue management and remediation activities
- Engage with regulators and external stakeholders on enquiries and inspections
- Lead the UK Ethics, Risk and Compliance Committee with senior leadership
- Contribute to the broader Group Compliance function development
Key requirements
- Significant experience in compliance, ethics, legal, risk, audit or similar control function
- Proven experience in a complex, highly regulated environment
- Experience leading compliance teams, programmes or major initiatives
- Strong advisory, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills with executives and boards
- Experience working with boards, governance committees and regulatory authorities
- Proven track record engaging with regulators on enquiries, reviews or investigations
- Solid understanding of compliance risk management, governance, monitoring and assurance
- Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to translate complex issues into practical advice
- Strong people leadership and ability to motivate teams in a matrix organisation
- Judgement and resilience to prioritise and perform under pressure
- Experience with UK regulators (Ofgem, HSE, ICO, CMA) is valuable
- Professional compliance qualification (ICA, SCCE or equivalent) would be desirable but not essential
