Overview
As a Quantity Surveyor at National Grid, you will manage commercial aspects of high-voltage substation projects and NEC contracts, ensuring value and fairness across the lifecycle. You’ll work within a cross-functional team to support UK infrastructure and energy transition initiatives. You will handle variations, payments, and stakeholder alignment to keep projects on track. This role offers hands-on impact on critical assets and a stable, inclusive employer culture. You’ll be challenged by complex contracts and diverse sites, with a clear opportunity to shape outcomes in a national context.
Pay / Benefits
- Salary up to 65,000 pa
- 3,000 pa market supplement

Responsibilities
- Take commercial control of high-voltage substation projects (switchgear, transformer installations, civil works) up to 6 million
- Manage NEC contracts and ensure compliance throughout the project lifecycle
- Resolve variations, assess programme impacts, certify payments, and negotiate outcomes
- Communicate with multiple stakeholders to align objectives and progress
- Undertake site measurements and value works from first principles with accurate reporting
- Handle variations and payments to contractors, ensuring processes are followed and progress remains on plan
- Work independently on a portfolio of projects with proactive problem-solving
Key requirements
- HNC/L4 in Construction, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying (minimum)
- Experience with main contractors and strong contract administration
- Stakeholder management ability in complex environments
- Self-sufficient, capable of workload management without constant oversight
- Experience with contract variation management and ensuring compliance
- Willingness to travel and full UK driving licence
