We’re looking for a passionate Network Manager to join our Control Centre Team! National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) sits at the heart of the UK’s energy system. The electricity it provides enables the nation to function, powering workplaces, schools and everyday life. Its energy network connects communities across the country, making continual evolution, advancement and improvement essential.

Within NGET, there is a strong commitment to operating the network safely and delivering a highly reliable, high‑quality supply for customers. Central to achieving these outcomes is the safe and effective control and operation of the transmission network. The Transmission Network Control Centre (TNCC) is on the front line of the electricity transmission system operation. We ensure that safety and system security standards are always maintained, deliver work that supports decarbonisation of the transmission system, and respond to critical events that ensures we keep the lights on across England and Wales.

As a Network Manager you are the senior manager accountable for the TNCC delivery. This role is based in the TNCC at Warwick, with potential to move to our new control centre being built near Birmingham in future. It is a shift‑based role, with working times between 6am – 10pm on weekdays (across two shifts) and 7am – 7pm on weekends.

What You’ll Do

  • Accountable for building strategic relationships with customers and stakeholders on behalf of the TNCC and for leading the agenda in our interactions with these organisations to drive overall positive societal outcomes.
  • Own the real‑time relationship in operational timescales to manage both day‑to‑day operations and network events.
  • Accountable for taking critical operational decisions that consider the balance of meeting asset, network and societal outcomes.
  • Respond swiftly and effectively to network incidents and co‑ordinate our response across internal parties including field teams as required.
  • Real Time management of flooding, storm and other system impacting risks in collaboration with NESO, ET Operations and external customers/stakeholders.
  • Provide strong leadership to the shift teams, creating the future and driving and embedding our change and transformation programmes.
  • Be clear and consistent in setting expectations and direction for our teams and hold high standards for delivery.
  • Promote a positive safety ethos within the team, consistently seeking an improved performance.
  • Accountable for real time management of our customers and stakeholders for events on the Transmission Network.

What You’ll Have

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng) or relevant subject or similar experience, ideally experience in energy system operation.
  • In‑depth experience of the UK electricity industry, embracing both physical system operation and the wider industry understanding.
  • Sound understanding of the HV Electricity Transmission System.
  • Understanding of Transmission System Control Room operations, associated obligations, operating parameters and facilities.
  • A clear understanding of National Grid’s business objectives and its obligations to wider industry participants and regulatory authorities.
  • Strong understanding of the constraints and commercial drivers associated with management of the transmission system.
  • Proven strong leadership capability with a track record demonstrating proven consultative, facilitation and decision‑making skills, and the ability to build positive relationships at a senior level both within National Grid, key influential external stakeholders and customers.
  • Excellent change management skills, able to construct and implement visions for the future across a multidiscipline team environment.
  • Excellent collaborator, able to establish sound working partnerships across applicable lines of business at a senior level, both internally and externally, including Government, Industry and Media.
  • The ability to work under exceptional pressure, remaining calm and focused on the task in hand, maintaining effective communication and effectively lead the team.
  • Sound presentation and influencing skills.
  • A successful track record of leading teams, preferably in a shift based or operationally‑based environments with familiarity of current HR and Shift Human Factor arrangements and practice.

  • Competitive Base Salary dependent on experience.
  • Bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 20% (with a maximum of 40%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12% and company electric car or cash alternative.
