Job Purpose National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is looking for an exceptional Head of Asset Data to lead the development and delivery of our Asset Information Strategy, ensuring high-quality, trusted asset data supports the safe, reliable, affordable and low-carbon operation of Great Britain's electricity transmission network. Reporting to the Director of Asset Management, you will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for asset information lifecycle management, asset information assurance and digital engineering capability. Acting as the senior business leader for asset information, you will ensure we maintain a single source of truth across our asset management systems, enabling better decisions across Asset Management, Engineering, Operations, Investment, Finance, Commercial and Regulatory functions.
This is a highly influential leadership role at the heart of a major transformation programme. You'll shape the future of asset information, digital engineering, data analytics and AI capabilities, driving improvements in data quality, governance and digital innovation that support network performance and business outcomes.
What you'll do:
- Develop, own and embed NGET's Asset Information Strategy, aligning it with asset management objectives, regulatory commitments and industry best practice.
- Lead and inspire a large team of managers and specialists through a significant period of transformation, creating a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and data-led decision making.
- Establish and maintain robust asset information governance frameworks, including standards, policies, assurance processes and controls across the asset lifecycle.
- Act as the senior business lead for asset information systems, ensuring asset registers, technical records and associated data are accurate, trusted and fit for purpose.
- Drive improvements in asset data quality, completeness and accuracy, sponsoring programmes focused on data cleansing, integration, migration and enhancement.
- Lead the Digital Engineering function, ensuring BIM, Common Data Environment (CDE) and digital engineering practices deliver long-term value across the asset lifecycle.
- Shape future digital capabilities, including digital twins, AI and predictive analytics, to improve asset performance, investment planning and operational efficiency.
- Provide regulatory confidence through effective assurance and audit regimes, ensuring asset information meets statutory, financial and operational requirements.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across Asset Management, Engineering, Operations, Digital, Commercial, Regulatory and external partner organisations.
- Sponsor and drive the delivery of a significant Asset Information Improvement Programme, ensuring transformational change is successfully implemented across the business.
About you We're looking for a proven senior leader who has built and led asset information capabilities within complex, asset-intensive organisations. You'll bring a strong track record across Asset Management, Asset Information, Digital Engineering, Data Analytics and/or AI-enabled asset environments, ideally within electricity transmission, utilities or wider regulated infrastructure sectors. Most importantly, you'll have successfully led large teams through major transformation programmes, delivering measurable improvements in asset information, data quality and digital capability.
You'll bring:
- A degree, or equivalent experience, in Engineering, Asset Management, Data/Information Management, Digital Engineering, Data Science or a related technical discipline.
- Professional certification, qualifications or continued professional development in Asset Management, Information Management, Digital Engineering, Data Governance, AI or Analytics.
- Significant leadership experience within asset-intensive organisations, ideally in electricity transmission, utilities or wider regulated infrastructure environments.
- Expertise in developing and implementing asset information strategies, governance frameworks and information management standards.
- Strong knowledge of asset information lifecycle management, asset health and condition monitoring data, data quality controls and enterprise asset management systems.
- Experience leading major data improvement or digital transformation programmes involving data integration, migration, analytics, process redesign or systems change.
- A strong understanding of digital engineering, BIM, Common Data Environments, data integration, dashboards and digital twin opportunities across the asset lifecycle.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage, challenge and collaborate with senior leaders across the organisation.
- The ability to translate complex technical, engineering and data-driven concepts into clear business outcomes and strategic decisions.
- Energy, resilience and passion for leading change, with a proven ability to inspire teams and drive successful transformation in operational environments.
It would be advantageous if you hold Chartered status (or equivalent professional recognition), are a member of a relevant professional body, and have experience with ISO 55000, ISO 19650 and the application of AI or predictive analytics within asset information environments.
What you'll get A competitive salary between 90,000 - 100,000 – dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 40% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, a salary sacrifice technology scheme, support via the employee assistance line and matched charity giving to name a few.
