We’re looking for a passionate Commercial Officer to join our Commercial Team. As the owners of Wales and England’s electricity transmission network, the organisation is investing £29 billion in the energy system and seeks an experienced professional in contract management and administration ready to take on greater responsibility and use this role as a stepping stone into management while working on high‑value, complex schemes.

The Commercial Officer will support the Commercial and Contracts Manager and collaborate with Quantity Surveyors across multiple contractual interfaces throughout the project lifecycle, with primary responsibility for non‑EPC contracts and key contract management and cost control activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial input into procurement and tender processes, supporting robust procurement governance.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms and conditions, advise project stakeholders, analyse supplier and market data.
  • Manage purchase orders and invoice queries, draft and review contractual documentation, maintain accurate contract records and key dates.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements, identify and escalate contractual risks while working closely with project teams and joint venture partners.
  • Support the Commercial and Contracts Manager in reviewing and managing contracts throughout their lifecycle, monitor supplier performance against contractual KPIs and SLAs.
  • Produce and analyse commercial reports, monitor and manage contract renewals, variations, and call‑off contracts via National Grid frameworks.
  • Drive development and execution of procurement across project teams for National Grid and JV, acting as point of contact for procurement support and strategies.
  • Support collation and issuing tender documentation, manage tender processes, support evaluations, and ensure procurement complies with internal policies and public procurement regulations.
  • Provide commercial advice and training to stakeholders, develop effective relationships with key suppliers and partners.
  • Identify and mitigate commercial and supply chain risks, support forecasting, monitor budgets and cost‑saving initiatives.
  • Raise and manage purchase orders and support JV & Finance teams with reconciliations.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or commensurate experience in a commercial/contract management environment.
  • Member of the Chartered Institute for Procurement and Supply or the International Association for Contract and Commercial Management.
  • Driving licence.
  • Previous experience in procurement or contract management/administration role.
  • Experience working with NEC and/or FIDIC terms and conditions (or equivalent).
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and challenging whilst proposing solutions and managing outputs to resolution.
  • High level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
