About the role

At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. National Grid supplies us with the environment to make it happen. As we generate momentum in the energy transition for all, we don’t plan on leaving any of our customers in the dark. Join us as a Civil Engineering Manager and find your superpower.

National Grid is hiring a Civil Engineering Manager accountable for the overall civil design of new OHA's across our projects. This role involves managing a team of engineers to provide design governance across all civil contractors, including but not limited to civil design houses, civil works contractors, and ancillary and building systems.

The role is primarily office-based at the main NGV office in Warwick, with regular national and international travel for meetings with project partners and design consultants. Frequent visits to the converter station site and cable route are also expected. Team members are currently permitted to work up to 6 days a fortnight from home, but this is likely to change as the project develops. Please note you must have a full UK driving licence and be able to drive for this role.

What you’ll do

  • Ensure that all our OHA assets are safe to operate and maintain by embedding safety by design into all civil design works.
  • Ensure that all our civil assets are specified, designed and installed in accordance with legislation and NGV technical standards.
  • Where NGV technical standards do not exist, develop where appropriate, standards which can be used for all OHA projects.
  • Provide line management and performance management for team members.

What you’ll need

  • Experience in successfully delivering large infrastructure projects, with the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • In-depth knowledge of the power industry.
  • Technical understanding of the main components that comprise a converter station.
  • Experience in making critical business and operational decisions with varying priorities.
  • Experience in forming and leading a project and engineering team.

What you’ll get

A competitive salary between £66,000 - £78,000 per annum - dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
