About the role

At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. National Grid supplies us with the environment to make it happen. As we generate momentum in the energy transition for all, we don't plan on leaving any of our customers in the dark. Join us as a Business Continuity Manager and find your superpower.

National Grid is hiring a Business Continuity Manager to be part of the Group Resilience and Crisis Management (GR&CM) organization which sits within the chief risk office. This role is part of a team which develops, maintains, and governs the program requirements for Business Continuity Management (BCM) across National Grid. In addition to helping shape BCM program policies, the manager serves as a leader by working closely with business stakeholders to ensure program compliance and provide support to the business as a BCM expert.

As part of the larger GR&CM team, the manager plays a critical role to support key initiatives such as providing input and supporting the design and delivery of training and exercise activities, helping to inform Group crisis response plans, and leveraging various technologies used within the team. The BCM Manager may also be called upon by business stakeholders and peers to provide similar levels of SME input and support on incident and emergency response programs.

We offer flexible hybrid working arrangements. We'd hope to see you in our Warwick office one or 2 days a week, and there also may be some adhoc travel to different sites.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of BCM program policies, guidance documents, and related materials.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of BCM program training materials, and support business stakeholders with program training and exercise needs.
  • Provide second line assurance for the BCM program by reviewing business program materials, tracking and reporting on BCM program compliance.
  • Support the business in remediation of known gaps.
  • Support the maintenance and digitization of the BCM program to ensure materials are stored and easily accessed by all stakeholders.
  • Proactively work with the risk team and business BCM or resilience leads to help identify or discuss new risks or inform how the BCM program works in tandem within Enterprise Risk Management and material controls.
  • Serve as a mentor, coach, and BCM SME to colleagues within GR&CM and business peers.
  • Provide support and input to help inform GR&CM programs such as crisis response plans, training, and exercises.

What you'll need:

  • Business Impact Analysis (BIA): Conduct and coordinate BIAs to identify critical business processes, assess risks, and determine recovery priorities. Ensure BIAs are reviewed annually or following significant changes.
  • Business Continuity Plans (BCP): Develop, implement, and maintain BCPs that guide the organization in responding to disruptive events. Ensure plans are updated regularly and tested through exercises.
  • Training and Exercises: Design and deliver training and exercise programs to enhance BCM capabilities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement lessons learned from exercises and real incidents to enhance the BCM and broader resilience program.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with the Group Resilience and Continuity Policy and relevant standards, including ISO 22301. Report on BCM program status and effectiveness to senior management.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Engage with stakeholders and resilience partners to identify and resolve issues proactively, share best practices, and improve overall resilience capabilities. This includes excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Problem solving: Strong problem-solving skills with a self-driven approach to identify challenges and develop effective solutions independently.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to assess complex situations, identify potential risks, and develop effective strategies for mitigation.
  • Project Management: Proficient in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational skills.
  • Seasoned experience in business continuity management, preferably within the emergency management or energy sectors.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 22301 and business continuity frameworks.
  • Familiarity with the National Grid's operational model and resilience policies is advantageous.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or similar are preferred but not required.

What you'll get:

A competitive salary between £58,000 - £70,000 per annum- dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
