National Grid is hiring an Associate Software Engineer on a permanent basis. This position is based in Warwick. You will also have the opportunity to work from our co-working space in London. This role is designated as hybrid, with an expectation of 3–4 days per month in the office. Requirements may vary based on business needs and company policy.

What You'll Do
- Gain hands‑on experience building scalable, high‑performance software, contributing to either frontend (React, Next.js, TypeScript) or backend (C#, .NET Core) development.
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code aligned with long‑term business objectives and modern engineering best practices.
- Develop an understanding of distributed systems, including deployment processes, performance optimisation, reliability, and security considerations.
- Work within Agile and Lean methodologies to deliver value iteratively, collaborating closely with both business and technical stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
- Follow engineering and architecture standards, contributing to code reviews, testing and QA activities, and maintaining clear documentation to support knowledge sharing and continuity.
About You
- A strong interest in software engineering, with a basic understanding of either frontend or backend development and some hands‑on experience (through education or work) being advantageous.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs, alongside an understanding of Azure cloud services and fundamental CI/CD principles.
- A willingness to learn and apply a test‑first approach, including automated testing, with any exposure to TDD or BDD considered a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with the confidence to approach challenges logically and effectively.
