Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come. On the Grain to Tilbury project, we’re building a new high‑voltage cable tunnel under the Thames and upgrading 27km of overhead lines in North Kent. The project is in the detailed design and delivery phase, with major tunnels and overhead line works under way on each side of the river, in preparation for an energisation date in 2028.

We are looking for a client‑side EPC project manager to join a high‑performing team and support the delivery of this project. This role will be predominantly based out of our project office in Tilbury, with the need to be on project sites a number of times a week, and potential travel further afield to other National Grid sites and offices; therefore ability to travel is essential.

About You

This is a project management role responsible for the delivery of a complex high‑value project.

  • Be able to demonstrate project management experience of construction schemes safely, sustainably, to specification, on time and to budget.
  • Have proficient knowledge of the application of CDM.
  • Have proficient knowledge of NEC/EPC contracts.
  • Reporting will be a key element of the role, with opportunity to present the scheme status throughout the management chain.
  • Experience in effective communication and disseminating scheme status is desirable.
  • Support and mentor the team to develop capability and ensure resilience.
  • Be able to demonstrate strong stakeholder management, good organisational skills and experience of resolving technical queries.
  • Having knowledge of substations, cable tunnels or overhead lines is advantageous.
  • Having knowledge of UK transmission system engineering is advantageous.

What You’ll Do

  • You will enable and deliver project outcomes, ensuring best value to the consumer.
  • Ensure internal and contractor compliance with Health & Safety, CDM & Environmental legislation as well as adherence to National Grid SHES standards.
  • Act as/support the NEC Project Manager (or equivalent for other contract types).
  • Work as part of a team with other Project Managers and Lead Project Managers.
  • Provide regular project status reports giving accurate financial forecasting, SHESQ performance, milestone progress & risk management data.
  • Drive customer and stakeholder satisfaction through positive engagement working pro‑actively to avoid issues.
  • Supported by a matrix organisation manage third‑party issues, land, consents, grantors, public relations, and local community stakeholder relationships to preserve National Grid’s reputation.
  • Manage risks and opportunities and enact change effectively, as required to deliver best value outcomes.
  • Manage a fully integrated project programme, coordinating interfaces and resources to ensure achievability.
  • Engage positively with a range of stakeholders, including National Grid colleagues, external suppliers, the regulator, and local communities.

What You’ll Get

A competitive salary between £55,000 – £65,000– dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double‑match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
