Job Purpose

Unlock your superpower supporting Health and Safety compliance across Asset Operations (AO) Engineering Services. In this hybrid role with national travel (company car provided), you’ll be part of a small Health, Safety and Compliance team supporting our Refurbishment Centres, Oil Management Unit, Environmental Engineering and Site Services teams. You’ll help ensure we meet our statutory duties by managing robust processes, auditing our premises, maintaining complete statutory documentation, and supporting managers, engineers and maintenance fitters. You’ll also help ensure colleagues are trained and competent to carry out work safely and compliantly in a fast‑paced, innovative environment.

What you’ll do

  • Manage statutory documentation across the zone, including Emergency Files, Fire Risk Assessments and actions, Environmental Files/Plans, Asbestos records, Written Schemes of Examination (WSE) and lifting equipment records.
  • Track and drive timely closure of zonal actions across systems and forums such as IMS (Incident Management System), BIR (Business Improvement Report), SRAT (Safety Rules Assurance Team), audit actions and AMBP 120 (Asset Management Business Procedure).
  • Carry out site inspections and support preparation for internal and external audits.
  • Participate in zonal working groups for Working at Height, PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations), LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Lead a zonal initiative or working group to support Health & Wellbeing and Employee Engagement.
  • Provide a strong interface with contractor managers and suppliers, fostering clear, timely communication and action.
  • Support managers and frontline teams with practical guidance, documentation control and assurance to maintain compliance.

About you

  • BTEC, ONC or equivalent in engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong background in Health & Safety administration with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident using computer systems, with good Microsoft Office skills, and comfortable working in a process‑driven environment.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills; resilient with the confidence to challenge behaviours and issues constructively.
  • Able to prioritise and manage a busy workload, meeting targets and deadlines.
  • Collaborative, proactive and comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including contractor managers and suppliers.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of transmission system plant and previous Authorisation, or experience working under safety rules or permit systems.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.

  • Salary: £41,561-£46,450 per annum + benefits + training and development + company car.
  • 26 days’ annual leave plus 8 statutory holidays, with the option to buy/sell days.
