We're looking for Senior Surveyors to lead on the development and delivery of new infrastructure projects within our Land Teams. Our infrastructure projects across England and Wales are helping to connect more renewable energy to homes and businesses.
You'll be part of a diverse land team providing expert land rights and acquisitions services required for new electrical assets for National Grid. This will be in accordance with current legislation and guidance, best practice and procedure, to ensure National Grid adheres to its licence obligations.

In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to travelling to offices and project sites as required. There are National Grid offices across England & Wales. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key accountabilities
- Successfully lead, manage, develop & deliver land rights and acquisitions for our infrastructure projects from development to construction, including access to land, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements.
- Lead on & implement National Grid Lands Rights Strategy (and other supporting policies and procedures) in a transparent, credible, consistent and economic way.
- Report on programme, key milestone delivery, risk, contract and financial management on a regular basis. This includes being able to identify and distil complex land issues in a succinct and clear way to key stakeholders.
- Evidence of developing & delivering projects requiring a DCO or CPO.
- Communicate and manage internal and external stakeholder, landowner and customer requirements providing excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to articulate complex, technical and nuanced ideas concisely and effectively to a range of audiences.
- Use your strong grasp of DCO/CPO processes to champion and raise the profile of the land team across the projects and navigating complex lands challenges.
- Demonstrate strong financial acumen and advanced negotiation skills including creative problem solving, and the ability to secure favourable outcomes when managing contractors and suppliers.
- Support the Land Project Managers in the successful procurement and management of external resource to deliver required lands activities.
- Share lessons learnt and best practice across the wider land team to drive consistency across the portfolio and deliver continuous improvement.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues, provide coaching and assistance as necessary to deliver land rights efficiently and effectively.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective engagement with all relevant stakeholders (internally and externally), including experience of leading/chairing project meetings.
- Ability to effectively manage (often competing) internal/external stakeholder, landowner and customer requirements.
- Experience of delivering start to finish complex, high value land activities for utility projects including access to land, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements.
- Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams (engineering, legal, consenting) to support overall project delivery.
- Substantial experience in project, programme, risk, contract and financial management, including accurate and timely customer reporting.
- Ability to manage projects to deliver required outputs on time and within budget.
- Understanding and knowledge of the legal and regulatory parameters that National Grid work within, including the range of statutory powers available.
- A willingness to train to develop expert witness expertise.
- Significant experience of the consenting regimes and processes relevant to complex linear projects. This includes the Planning Act (2008) Development Consent Order and Compulsory Purchase Order processes and practice including the compensation code.
- Desirable - degree qualified (or equivalent) in a related discipline and/or working towards AssocRICS or MRICS.
