Unlock your Superpower working on Protection and Control to support the efficient power flow of the National HV Transmission System. We're looking for a Transmission level protection engineer who has a background in either developing or commissioning power system relay products and protection solutions, and to support future and existing protection relay assets to ensure the Transmission System remains resilient across England and Wales.
As the Lead Transmission Network Engineer for Protection and Control, you will lead the design, delivery, and recovery process for light current solutions, including fault response and incident investigations. You will be the expertise to the field staff, guiding them to the correct engineering solution whilst providing product support across a range of manufacturers and eras. Your contributions will be vital in guiding the Engineering function, ensuring the reliability and performance of protection relays on our critical infrastructure, authoring the documentation to prevent reoccurrences and presenting to senior management the risks within our asset portfolio. You’ll be based primarily in our Protection Testing Facility in Leeds (with hybrid working), whilst travelling the country to provide front line support where necessary.

What You'll Do
- Create solutions for asset interventions of transmission level protection and control assets, including meeting Type Registration deliverables.
- Discharge the role of Designer by providing the design, or by checking the design submitted by colleagues or contractors, for creating transmission level protection and control solutions for in-service failures of obsolete equipment.
- Lead and deliver Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for in-house developed light current solutions from our Protection Testing Facility in Leeds.
- Work towards NG ETBP-141 authorisation.
- Provide mentoring and advice to junior colleagues as assigned by the Network Engineering Manager and support them in delivering their accountabilities and objectives.
- Provide training to operational field staff as and when required on in-house developed solutions and support them in delivering their accountabilities.
What You’ll Have
- Experience with logic programming and solution development of light current transmission level protection assets (i.e. Siemens DIGSI, GE S1 Agile, SEL AcSELerator, Enervista, etc).
- An appreciation of the functionality, operation and lifetime management of UK relay protection assets from the 1960s to the present day.
- Experience of either commissioning or support of transmission level protection relays is desirable.
- An appreciation of National Grid Policy and Procedure.
- Experienced in effective communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations to multi-disciplined teams / audiences.
- Experienced in building and maintain relationships internally and externally with key stakeholders.
