Be at the forefront of the UK’s energy transformation. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in one of National Grid’s flagship Strategic Infrastructure projects in Northwest Wales. As part of the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) portfolio — 17 nationally critical projects fast‑tracked to boost grid capacity — you’ll directly contribute to the UK’s 2030 and 2050 net‑zero ambitions and enable a future powered by sustainable, home‑grown energy. From development and sanction through to execution, you’ll drive the project to successful completion on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. You will lead on risk management, ensuring potential challenges are proactively identified, scoped, and mitigated. Working closely with delivery partners and the wider project team, you’ll manage EPC contracts, enable strong commercial performance, and foster collaboration across a complex stakeholder landscape. Above all, you’ll champion a culture of excellence, embedding rigorous health, safety, and environmental standards while ensuring the project meets its regulatory, stakeholder, and customer commitments. This role requires regular travel and attendance on site in North Wales.
What You’ll Do
- Responsible for the successful delivery of a complex project, ensuring outcomes are achieved safely, on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards.
- Help lead, motivate and develop project management teams, setting clear objectives, monitoring performance and fostering a high‑performing, collaborative culture.
- Own the end‑to‑end project lifecycle, through development, design, delivery, commissioning and handover to meet business‑case requirements.
- Establish and maintain robust project controls, including scope, schedule, cost, risk, change and benefits management, ensuring accurate reporting and governance compliance.
- Act as the primary point of accountability for senior stakeholders, sponsors and partners, building strong relationships and providing clear, concise, and timely communications.
- Manage and mitigate project risks and issues, ensuring proactive identification, effective escalation and implementation of mitigating actions.
- Ensure all projects are delivered in full compliance with health, safety, environmental, regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Oversee commercial and contractual arrangements, including supplier selection, contract management, performance monitoring and dispute resolution.
- Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned across projects, embedding best practice, standard methodologies and innovative ways of working.
- Support strategic planning and portfolio alignment by providing expert input, estimates and advice to ensure projects deliver maximum value and support organisational objectives.

About You
- Proven experience leading complex projects within matrixed, cross‑functional environments, with strong time management, problem‑solving capability and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Highly effective communicator with strong business writing skills, able to influence, negotiate and build trusted, long‑term relationships with senior stakeholders, including government and external partners.
- Customer‑focused delivery approach, consistently producing high‑quality outcomes while balancing stakeholder expectations and organisational priorities.
- Working knowledge and application of CDM with a proficient understanding of safety and environmental legislation, practices and policies.
- Strong communicator with proven ability to engage, influence and build enduring relationships with stakeholders across matrixed, cross‑functional environments.
- Effective self‑management and decision‑making skills, able to manage change in a complex environment.
- Analytical problem‑solver with a continuous improvement mindset, able to evaluate challenges and deliver practical, value‑focused solutions.
- UK driving licence.
- Ability to travel to North Wales.
