An opportunity has arisen for an Operator (Fitting) based at our Redruth Depot. As an Operator you will assist a Craftsperson with general site work associated with the repair, maintenance and construction of plant and switchgear up to 33kV. In addition, you will be required to undertake substation inspections. Some electrical experience would be an advantage; however, full training will be given.
To apply, you will need to hold English & Maths GCSE (1-9/G-A*) or equivalent qualification deemed to be at the same level in these subjects, such as Functional Skills. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
Main Responsibilities
- The work involves being away from the depot, normally working in a team of two people.
- The environment requires you to be able to react quickly, decisively and responsibly.
- You will also need to be flexible in your approach to assist the team in meeting its objectives.
- The role is suitable for someone who enjoys the demands of a physical outdoor environment.
Ideal Candidate
- You will need to be mobile throughout the area as you may also be required to undertake out of hours standby duties; therefore, a full driving license is required.
- Operationally we require you to live within approximately 30 minutes of the depot you are applying for.
- Potential candidates should be aware that for some of the National Grid positions that require working at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 135kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
