National Grid is hiring a Quality Advisor for our Infrastructure Delivery department based in our South Region covering London, South East and Reading.
About the role
You will provide quality support to the National Grid Infrastructure Delivery (ID) teams with coaching, advice and training that will drive, motivate, inspire and encourage managers, staff and contractors to deliver industry, ISO and NG procedural excellence and compliance. To promote continuous improvement to create, achieve and sustain world class Quality performance across the contractors who deliver our construction works. The successful candidate will be a source of expertise on quality issues, providing specialist advice on Quality in Construction, Manufacturing Quality. Identify the impact of poor quality, defects & rework on costs, delay & safety.
What you’ll do
- Support projects in the delivery of company Quality strategy.
- Provide appropriate Quality input into the tender and contract award process.
- Provide a single point of contact for advice and expertise on quality documentation & processes.
- Conduct regular site visits & conduct Quality walks, work with the site teams to identify & resolve issues.
- Attend project meetings (tender, design review, prestart & during construction) to ensure NG and ISO requirements are met.
- Establish root causes when major defects are identified, providing expert advice, support and guidance on resolution and communicate learning points.
- Support in the implementation of Quality strategy including briefings, training, and delivery of quality initiatives.
- Actively engage, coach and positively influence staff, managers and contractors on Quality performance and defect management to promote a positive quality culture across Infrastructure Delivery.
- Provide independent Quality Assurance advice and audit capability to the Infrastructure Delivery, ensuring NG and contractor ISO compliance.
- Work with Project Teams through design, pre-construction & construction, testing & commissioning phases.
- Provide monthly Quality data/statistics to line and senior management as needed.
- Support the delivery and implementation of a comprehensive Quality SMS programme including internal and external audits.
- Provide input into the development, review and implementation of NG policies, procedures and specifications as required and promote best practice and lessons learned.
- Support & Implement NG ID and regional Quality initiatives.
What you’ll need
- Essential to have a current full UK driving license.
- ISO9001 Internal Auditor Certificate.
- NEBOSH Certificate or IOSH Managing safety or equivalent and/or EUSR/SHEA.
- Desirable – IEMA Foundation in Environmental Management or NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management.
- Thorough knowledge of Quality in Construction & ISO compliance.
- Experience in creating and working with Project Quality Plans and ITPs.
- Experienced in root cause analysis/Tap Root analysis and other quality tools and methodology, corrective action plans and resolution.
- Experience and knowledge of CDM roles and responsibilities, HAZIDs/Design Assurance/Safe by Design.
- Confidence in working with Principal Contractors and ensuring NG Contractor Quality standards are met at all times across the project.
- Ability to recommend preventative action, develop new initiatives and co-ordinate or ensure their implementation.
- Ability to identify and assess patterns of resistance and effective problem-solving skills.
- Be able to analyse quality performance to provide valuable insights into tracking the impact of poor quality, non-conformance and defects on Projects and NG.
- Desirable – Practitioner member of the CQI or willingness to work towards through the NGET Quality Career Pathway.
