As a Public Affairs Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the development and execution of public affairs initiatives that enhance National Grid’s reputation. You will focus on stakeholder engagement, monitoring political developments, and effectively communicating our positions on key issues. Collaborating with internal teams and external partners, you will ensure that our public engagement aligns with corporate objectives.

This role will be based out of our London office (The Strand), and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategic Development: Assist in crafting and implementing public affairs strategies that align with National Grid’s corporate objectives and enhance our reputation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, industry associations, and community organizations.
  • Political Monitoring: Keep a close eye on legislative and political developments relevant to National Grid, providing timely updates and insights to the team.
  • Communication Support: Help prepare communication materials such as position statements, briefing documents, and responses to stakeholder inquiries.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with various teams to integrate public affairs initiatives into broader corporate strategies and messaging.
  • Event Organisation: Assist in organising events, meetings, and outreach activities to engage stakeholders and promote National Grid’s initiatives.
  • Networking: Maintain a network of contacts within the public affairs community to gather insights and share intelligence with the team.
  • Activity Tracking: Contribute to tracking and reporting public affairs activities and outcomes, providing regular updates to senior management.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in public affairs and stakeholder engagement to support the team’s efforts.

What You’ll Have

  • Experience: Background in public affairs, government relations, or communications, preferably, but not limited to, the energy, utilities, or corporate sectors.
  • Political Insight: Understanding of the political landscape and awareness of regulatory processes affecting the utilities sector.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Analytical Ability: Good analytical skills to assess policy developments and their potential impact on the organization.
  • Organisational Skills: Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with public affairs tools and platforms.

As well as your base salary you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
