Power System Engineer Position located in the Warwick office; flexible hybrid working options available.
Job Purpose
The role leads and supports the development of innovative solutions within Power System Engineering for Network Development. It involves translating complex technical concepts into accessible language, taking ownership of issues, and driving initiatives forward. Strong expertise in Power System Modelling using DigSilent PowerFactory is essential. The role includes design of control systems for HVDC and FACTS devices, wind farm applications, and delivery of essential power system studies such as load flow and fault level analysis to support planning and operations.
What You’ll Do
- Proactively own and solve issues.
- Engage stakeholders effectively and translate complex technical topics into simple language.
- Design control systems for HVDC or FACTS devices.
- Design wind farms and conduct time‑domain studies.
- Oversee and mentor team members in carrying out power‑system studies.
- Review PSE studies and provide constructive feedback.
- Contribute to innovation projects and develop new solutions.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies and industry technical groups.
- Apply an understanding of outage management and asset management principles.
- Scope, undertake, interpret, and act upon power‑system analysis to facilitate transmission network investment planning across multiple timescales.
- Collaborate across Network Design’s Power System Engineering functions to deliver comprehensive end‑to‑end network solutions.
- Assist team members in conducting detailed technical analysis and developing complex system outage plans to manage system security and minimise transmission constraint costs and risks.
About You
- Good understanding of DigSilent PowerFactory network analysis tools, including calculation, data management and system interfaces.
- Understanding of Cost‑Benefit Analysis and its application in developing investment cases.
- Experience in power‑system planning and system studies.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
- Proficient in using DigSilent PowerFactory for studies and modelling.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders and maintain effective communication.
- Working understanding of the RIIO price control processes and relevant funding mechanisms.
- Minimum a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field; preference for a PhD or master’s degree in electrical power systems.
- IET membership and working towards CEng.
- Membership of an appropriate engineering institution desirable.
