The role sits at the heart of Britain's energy system, connecting millions of people and businesses safely, reliably, and efficiently to the energy they use every day. At National Grid we are embarking on the largest overhaul of the electricity grid in generations and over the five years to 2029, we will be investing over £30 billion to upgrade our electricity networks across England and Wales. This will enable the Government's core missions to kickstart economic growth and make Britain a clean energy superpower, supporting 55,000 more jobs by the end of the decade. The scale and pace of transformation required across our energy system is truly unprecedented. This role provides an exciting opportunity to shape National Grid's policy position on a range of topics to enable this transformation.
What you’ll be getting up to:
- Draft written responses in collaboration with colleagues to Government consultations/Parliamentary inquiries etc.
- Work across the business, especially with Corporate Affairs Business Partners, to pro-actively develop and/or shape policy positions in line with overall company narrative.
- Support our annual policy prioritisation process, engaging across all UK business units, and ensuring alignment with US colleagues.
- Proactively analyse policy developments (opportunities and threats), insight and intelligence from multiple political and media channels, understanding their potential impact on the business and what Corporate Affairs should do to mitigate the impact.
- Draft briefing notes for the UK Executive team to raise awareness of policy developments.
- Where required attend external functions and networking events in order to create opportunities for National Grid to influence policy in a proactive way.
- Cultivate strong relationships with government bodies and industry associations to gather up-to-date policy intelligence and actively influence policy decisions.
What’s in it for you?
A competitive salary between £67,000 - £75,000 per annum - dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. About you:
- In-depth, demonstrable knowledge & experience of key aspects of Public Policy, including a strategic approach to policy development and political positioning.
- Thorough knowledge of control design and testing.
- Ability to grasp complex issues and effectively integrate, compile, and analyze information and data.
- Excel and PowerPoint proficiency required.
- You will have great interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate well, be organised with the ability to prioritise and be flexible, whilst working to tight deadlines.
