Overhead Lines Site Engineer – help deliver the future of the electricity network. This is a fantastic opportunity to join National Grid as an Overhead Lines Site Engineer, supporting essential maintenance, refurbishment and installation activity across the high‑voltage network. You’ll help ensure work is well planned, safely delivered and completed efficiently, enabling more renewable and low‑carbon energy to be connected and transported to homes and businesses across the country.
Salary Package: £50,126 pa including allowances + Paid Overtime + Mobility Payments. 37 Av h/pw – 4 day week on a staggered Friday or Monday off rota. Training and Development + Commercial vehicle. Contribution Pension Max Total up to 18%.
Role Overview: As the OHL Site Engineer, you will be responsible for the organising and prioritisation of on‑site OHL works, we call projects. Essentially they are maintenance, installations or refurbishments of electricity transmission high‑voltage plant and equipment. You’ll support Team Leaders, HV SAP and teams of OHL Linesperson’s ensuring they are productive through working safely and efficiently. This includes the planning and allocation of works, pre‑ordering of equipment, plant and spares reducing the risk of planned work not starting. Your role also requires authorisations under NG Safety rules and procedures, so we’ll put you through training for Competent Person (CP). You’ll employ the duties of General Site Supervisor with accountability for workplace safety and compliance with external regulations and National Grid policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include conducting risk assessments and method statements, monitoring compliance and promoting a safety culture.
Requirements:
- A recognised apprenticeship in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical engineering OR an NVQ/Level 3 Electrical, Civil or Mechanical qualification and the relevant experience.
- Experience of allocating or planning work for teams to complete.
- You’ll have excellent communication and organising skills.
- Proven experience to produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) to a high standard.
- A Full UK Driving Licence.
- You can use a computer.
- Industry experience – High Voltage and/or OHL.
