Join National Grid Electricity Distribution as an Electricity Distribution Network First Responder based at our depot in Gloucester. Electrical engineers are pivotal in restoring electricity supplies for customers, often serving as the first point of contact and the face of National Grid onsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Restore electricity supplies for customers.
  • Act as the first point of contact, resolving incidents at customers’ properties.
  • Conduct asset inspections and fit meter isolator switches.
  • Work largely independently while coordinating with field operations teams when necessary.
  • Provide standby coverage to support customers 24/7 when required.
  • Where qualified, perform switching at HV and receive an annual allowance for this additional work.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognised Level 2 Electrical qualification (NVQ/City & Guilds) or equivalent, evidence to be provided on appointment.
  • Experience in electrical installation for commercial and domestic property.
  • Prior customer‑facing roles demonstrating strong service and communication skills.
  • Full UK/EU driving licence; a company vehicle will be provided for business use.
  • Desirable: NRSWA qualification or understanding of the legislation (training available).
  • Will undergo a satisfactory Barring Service (DBS) check; additional checks may apply for certain duties.

Working Hours & Conditions

  • 37 hours a week, with the possibility of standby duties to provide customer coverage 24/7.
