Supply Chain SHEQ Support in Leeds

About the role

National Grid’s Electricity Transmission System is undergoing one of the largest infrastructure transformations in its history, supporting the UK's transition to a cleaner, greener energy future. As we continue to deliver major upgrade projects through our strategic delivery partners, we’re looking for a Supply Chain SHEQ Support to play a key role in supporting and assuring our growing supply chain.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) standards across major infrastructure projects, ensuring our partners are fully onboarded, compliant and equipped to deliver excellence.

Location

Sheffield project office (2 days per week) with hybrid working and travel to operational sites.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Supply Chain SHEQ Support, you will provide expert guidance and assurance across our Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business, helping to ensure SHEQ activities are delivered in line with legislation, National Grid policies and industry best practice.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and delivering SHEQ onboarding programmes and materials for Principal Contractors, including SharePoint content management.
• Designing and implementing risk-based assurance programmes that provide meaningful insights into SHEQ compliance and performance.
• Advising business leaders on controls, governance and assurance processes, including embedding first‑line self‑assessment activities.
• Supporting the development and continuous improvement of SHEQ policies, standards and procedures.
• Facilitating the implementation of assurance initiatives across the business.
• Leading and supporting internal audits, ISO audits and certification activities.
• Representing the SHEQ team within key working groups and forums, ensuring effective communication across Strategic Infrastructure.
• Promoting SHEQ awareness and capability through education and engagement with colleagues and delivery partners.
• Collaborating with wider assurance teams to support activities beyond your core specialism where required.
• Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and driving best practice across the supply chain.

What you’ll need

You’ll bring a strong background in assurance, compliance and continuous improvement, along with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders.

You’ll ideally have:

• Experience conducting assurance or audit activities within a SHEQ or operational environment.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
• Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong project planning, change management and performance improvement experience.
• Membership of, or a qualification from, a recognised professional body such as IOSH or IRCA.
• Knowledge and practical application of relevant ISO standards.
• Experience implementing and embedding policies, standards and governance frameworks.
• An HNC‑level SHEQ qualification or equivalent experience.
• A full UK driving licence.
