About the role

We are looking for a Head of Field Operations Transformation to lead and shape one of the most significant transformation programmes within National Grid Electricity Distribution. This role is the strategic architect of change across Field Operations, responsible for defining, governing and delivering large-scale, multi-year transformation that drives operational performance, regulatory readiness, digital capability and long-term resilience.

Working at a senior level across the organisation, you will influence executive stakeholders, align cross‑functional teams and embed modern, efficient ways of working. You’ll play a critical role in positioning the business for success through ED2, ED3 and beyond, ensuring transformation delivers meaningful, measurable impact for customers and the organisation.

We know flexibility matters, so this role offers a hybrid working approach. You can base yourself at any of our sites across the East Midlands, West Midlands, South West, or Wales, with travel as required.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, governance, and successful delivery of large-scale, enterprise transformation programmes in field operations.
  • Shape the strategic change roadmap, ensuring alignment with long-term organisational goals, regulatory obligations, and customer outcomes.
  • Act as a senior adviser to executives, providing clear, evidence-based insights to support strategic decision-making and investment prioritisation.
  • Lead cross‑executive transformation governance forums to ensure visibility of risks, progress, dependencies, and delivery confidence for field operations programmes.
  • Drive operational and cultural modernisation, embedding agile mindsets, digital literacy, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
  • Oversee end-to-end programme performance including scope, budget, benefits, interdependencies, regulatory considerations, and delivery risk.
  • Establish and maintain robust benefits‑realisation frameworks to ensure transformation delivers quantifiable financial, operational, and customer value.
  • Drive strong stakeholder engagement across field operations, engineering, customer, digital, regulatory teams.
  • Represent transformation initiatives in regulatory, industry, or external forums where appropriate.
  • Build commitment and alignment across senior leaders, ensuring clarity of purpose and maintaining delivery momentum.

About you

We are looking for an experienced, delivery-focused transformation leader who can operate at pace and scale in a complex environment. You will bring:

  • Extensive experience leading multi-disciplinary transformation programmes in complex, regulated or operational environments.
  • Deep strategic planning capability and proven ability to translate strategic vision into structured delivery and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong leadership and influencing capability, with experience engaging senior stakeholders and executive teams.
  • Expertise in programme governance, risk management, benefits realisation and portfolio performance.
  • A strong understanding of digital transformation, operational excellence and modern delivery methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success in driving cultural and behavioural change across large operational teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and build alignment.
  • Experience working within or alongside regulated frameworks.

Preferred

  • A consultancy background, with experience working across multiple clients or sectors, bringing a broad, end-to-end view of transformation delivery.
  • Exposure to operational environments, ideally within field operations or utilities, with an understanding of the unique challenges of large, front-line workforces.

What we can offer you

A competitive salary of £80,000 - £100,000 - dependent on experience. Plus:

  • Competitive annual performance bonus.
  • Company car or car allowance of £6000.
  • 28 days annual leave, plus eight statutory days.
  • A generous contributory pension scheme – we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
  • Share save scheme.
  • Private Medical Insurance.
  • Life insurance.
  • Hybrid Working with two or three days per week at one of our sites.
