About us At National Grid, we are at the heart of shaping a secure, affordable, and clean energy future. We are investing around £60bn over five years in our networks in the UK and the US, with a range of ground‑breaking projects to expand our networks. We operate across the UK and in the north‑east of the US, across electricity and gas, in distribution and transmission. Our Risk function was previously split between our UK and US businesses, though following the evolution of our business model, our support functions now operate globally.
The Group Head of Risk Transformation is a critical role, and will lead the evolution and maturation of enterprise risk management across electricity and gas, in the UK and the US. This role will establish risk management as a core competency in the function, ensuring that risk is integrated into all major decisions, including those related to capital allocation and transformation initiatives. The role will span transformation, strategic developments, and maintenance of the risk management framework, policy, procedures, and technology that support risk management. The person will also be responsible for innovation, in areas including AI and analytics. This will be an exciting opportunity to help shape this area, leading ongoing transformation and development, with the chief risk office already strongly valued as a strategic partner to the business.
Key accountabilities
- Manage the Risk Transformation Programme, embedding the Group Risk Management Framework across UK and US operations
- Establish robust risk‑informed decision‑making processes
- Provide risk insight to Business Unit Board and Executive Committees
- Build a high‑performing Group Risk function, including leading and developing a team of around five people
- Monitor developments in risk management methodologies, tools, and technologies, implementing innovation
Candidate profile
- Extensive leadership experience in enterprise risk management, with the presence to operate at executive levels
- Experience in systems implementations, with a digital‑focused approach when working with the business
- Strategic thinker
- A track record of delivering change
- Most likely, the person will have experience working in large, complex, multinational organisations
- Energy / utilities experience is not required – more important are the skills and approach outlined here

- Location: the role will be based in Warwick, with the person likely on‑site around two days per week.
