Are you ready to take the lead in shaping the future of fleet operations? We’re looking for a Fleet Technical & Commercial Manager to join our Fleet Leadership Team and provide technical and commercial leadership across the Fleet and Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) network. You’ll play a critical role in delivering our fleet strategy and achieving long-term operational excellence.
You’ll manage key supplier relationships, oversee technical standards and lead transformation initiatives that enhance efficiency and capability across the fleet supply chain. As part of the Fleet Leadership Team, you’ll provide visible, effective leadership, setting clear strategic direction and SMART objectives, fostering a high-performing culture, and acting as a role model for our organisational values. The role will be hybrid and will cover South West England, South Wales, East and West Midlands therefore extensive travel will be required.
Main Responsibilities- Provide technical support to VMUs and vehicle build teams
- Oversee contractor and supplier management for LOLER, tyres, platforms, cranes, and generators
- Develop technical specifications for vehicle parts, oils, and consumables
- Manage warranty and recall processes (internal and external)
- Support workshop EV strategy and equipment procurement
- Conduct incident investigations and technical training initiatives
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, service bulletins, and SOPs
- Manage VMU team training requirements
- Act as Nominated Transport Manager on all Operator Licenses
- Engage with Trade Unions and facilitate Transport Committee meetings
We’re seeking a professional with a strong technical background and leadership capability. You should bring:
- Proven experience in fleet technical support, workshop, or engineering management.
- In-depth knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and maintenance standards
- A solid understanding of LOLER regulations and compliance requirements
- Supplier and contract management experience, with a focus on performance and value
- Familiarity with EV technology and workshop transition strategies
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire teams
- Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence qualification
- A Mechanical or Electrical Automotive Engineering qualification
- IOSH or NEBOSH certification for health and safety expertise
- Be able to travel across all of our licence areas
While not essential, the following would be an advantage:
- LOLER inspection awareness or certification
- Experience using fleet management and diagnostic software
